How Crowns and Bridges Can Help Your Smile

By Brooks Cosmetic & Family Dentistry

Your teeth are immensely durable, however, they’re not entirely indestructible. After decades of constant use, it’s not surprising to see stains, cracks, or other issues in your teeth. Fortunately, bridges and crowns provide a very effective technique to regain the functionality of damaged teeth.

Read on to learn why Dr. Robert Rooks and Dr. Brent Johnson here at Brooks Cosmetic & Family Dentistry in McDonough, GA, preserve smiles with this treatment option.

What Bridges and Crowns Can Do For Your Smile

  • Restore and Repair Damaged Teeth: Your teeth could sustain breaks and fractures if you hurt yourself while playing a sport or slip and hit a tooth. You will experience pain when your injured tooth’s broken edges are exposed to air. However, this isn’t the only issue you need to worry about. Left untreated, your injured tooth will detract from your looks and even make it difficult for you to chew and speak. Depending on how many teeth are injured, your dentist in McDonough, GA, may recommend a combination of crowns and bridges to make your smile whole again.
  • Fill in Spaces in Your Smile: You don’t have to be embarrassed about lost teeth. Adding bridges and crowns to your mouth will improve your smile’s aesthetic and your ability to properly chew, bite, and speak.
  • Safeguard a Fragile Tooth: With a dental crown in place, you won’t have to worry about teeth that have been weakened due to aging, root canal treatment, trauma, or big dental fillings.
  • Prevent Cracks and Chips from Getting Worse: Chipped or cracked teeth could eventually turn into broken teeth if you fail to protect them in time. Placing a crown over your fragile teeth, on the other hand, will ensure that your weakened teeth are always protected.

Improve Your Smile with Bridges and Crowns!

Reach out to us here at Brooks Cosmetic & Family Dentistry in McDonough, GA, to arrange a consultation with one of our dentists, Dr. Robert Rooks or Dr. Brent Johnson. Dial (678) 583-0330 for more details.

What Are Crowns and Bridges?

That’s a question worth asking Brooks Cosmetic and Family Dentistry in McDonough, GA.

If you live in McDonough and are facing root canal therapy, tooth extraction, or are missing teeth, crowns and bridges might be options you want to investigate.Crowns

Crowns and bridges are both permanent prosthetic dental devices. A crown, also known as a cap, is a tooth-like device that covers a damaged tooth. It is usually made of ceramic, porcelain, resin, or stainless steel. A crown procedure usually takes more than one visit to your McDonough dentist. During the first visit, the dentist will analyze your situation and prepare the tooth for a crown. That preparation will probably involve some alteration, either filing down of the tooth or adding filling so that it can support a crown. Your McDonough dentist will then take an impression of your teeth so that a laboratory can create a permanent crown for you. Finally, your McDonough dentist will attach a temporary crown until the permanent crown is ready; it will be permanently attached during your next visit.

A bridge is used to fill a space caused by a missing tooth or teeth. With bridgework, your McDonough dentist will likely need to do the procedure in more than one visit; the procedure will be similar to a crown procedure. The dentist will need to assess your situation and prepare the two teeth to which the permanent bridge will be attached. This usually involves reduction of the tooth to fit crowns to which your McDonough dentist will anchor the bridge. The dentist may give you a temporary removable prosthesis to use while your permanent bridge is being made. During the second visit, your McDonough dentist will permanently attach your bridge.

Like crowns, bridges are custom-manufactured to your particular needs.

Both procedures are among the most common, safest, and effective dental procedures done today.

If you are seeking the services of a qualified dentist in McDonough, consider contacting Brooks Cosmetic and Family Dentistry. For more information call 678-583-0330.
